An Alliterative Alphabet

An Alliterative Alphabet emerged from a creative collaboration with my sister-in-law during the quiet days of 2020. As the illustrator, I drew inspiration from those still moments to craft whimsical, sometimes spooky scenes for each letter. This article highlights some of the eerier letters, blending fun with mystery, making it a magical read for kids.

Here are a few of my favorite spookier letters:

Here’s the letter A, where we meet the atrocious anchor. Is the anchor the one who caused the shipwreck in the background? Who’s to say?

“If you were an A, then you might be, an atrocious anchor, arrayed in algae.”

The letter E features an earworm being excavated from a grateful soul. It's a happy scene, but what is (or who are those beings) in all of those jars in the background?

“If you were an E, you might be elated, when an erudite earworm is easily excavated.”

The letter L has an innocent enough scene. It’s just a lethargic lion lacing a loom. But wait, why is there a lamb on his loom design, and what does he mean by “cooking with friends?!”

“If you were an L, then you might assume, a lion lethargically, lacing a loom.”

The letter S features six silhouettes, who are surrounded by mysterious and magical vibes. What do you think they are up to?

“If you were an S, then you might be able, to see six silhouettes, saturated in sable.”

The letter V is full of vegetable vengeance, and I’m unsure how to process what is happening here. Maybe we should just look away!

“If you were a V, then you might see, vengeful vegetables, voice ventriloquy.”

The letter W is full of quiet spookiness. What woeful wishes are these entirely strange writers whispering about?

“If you were a W, you might be suspicious, of woeful writers, whispering wishes.”

I hope you enjoyed this sneak peek into this spooky children’s book that I am so proud to have been a part of. If you’re interested in checking out the full e-book or paperback, they are available on Amazon: USUKDEFRESITNLJPBRCAMXAUIN
