An Alliterative Alphabet
An Alliterative Alphabet emerged from a creative collaboration with my sister-in-law during the quiet days of 2020. As the illustrator, I drew inspiration from those still moments to craft whimsical, sometimes spooky scenes for each letter. This article highlights some of the eerier letters, blending fun with mystery, making it a magical read for kids.
Here are a few of my favorite spookier letters:
Here’s the letter A, where we meet the atrocious anchor. Is the anchor the one who caused the shipwreck in the background? Who’s to say?
The letter E features an earworm being excavated from a grateful soul. It's a happy scene, but what is (or who are those beings) in all of those jars in the background?
The letter L has an innocent enough scene. It’s just a lethargic lion lacing a loom. But wait, why is there a lamb on his loom design, and what does he mean by “cooking with friends?!”
The letter S features six silhouettes, who are surrounded by mysterious and magical vibes. What do you think they are up to?
The letter V is full of vegetable vengeance, and I’m unsure how to process what is happening here. Maybe we should just look away!
The letter W is full of quiet spookiness. What woeful wishes are these entirely strange writers whispering about?
